Abstract

The article discusses the welfare of China's rural elderly on whether they should stay in their homes or to move to a home for the aged. Particular focus is given on who would be the decision maker for the care of the elderly whether it would be the elderly themselves or their children. Details of the survey conducted in a village 500 kilometers from Beijing, China, concerning the welfare of the elderly are also presented. Studies show that several factors are to be considered before any decision is made to where China's elderly should be staying.
