What Links the ‘Daughter of Babylon’ and Sela in Edom in Psalm 137?

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Based on an archaeological discovery—an inscription uncovered at Qal‘at Sela‘ in Edom—this article attempts to explain the merge of Edom with Babylon in Psalm 137. It proposes that ha-sela‘ in Ps 137:9 refers to this Edomite stronghold and reflects the psalmist’s wish that Babylonia suffer a defeat similar to one it inflicted on Edom at Qal‘at Sela.
