Research output: Contribution to journalComment/Debate

Abstract

This article explores how modern media, specifically podcasts, can be used in the fields of Holocaust research, education, and commemoration, highlighting their educational potential. Based on the recent experience of creating the podcast Holocaust: Three Generations (2022), this study focuses on the potential educational contribution to presenting the topic of inheritance or intergenerational transmission of the Holocaust as a lived experience in families of survivors. The article aims to detail the steps of the podcast’s creation, the launch of the podcast, as well as some data on the distribution and reactions it received. A case study based on one chapter (out of five) illustrates how the podcast brings together the voices of three generations in one family in order to illuminate intergenerational experiences and legacies. The article demonstrates the potential of this type of medium to contribute digital works of Holocaust memory, offering an advantageous tool for education and commemoration.
