Abstract
Since April 2010, a complementary and alternative medical service (CAM) has been in operation at the Bnai Zion Medical Center in Israel. Hypnosis is administered by a certified hypnotist- clinical psychologist. At first, the service was patient-oriented. While treating patients, a new understanding emerged concerning the role of hypnosis in a medical centre that it is team-oriented and it involves: instructing the multidisciplinary medical and nursing staff in the language of hypnosis; conducting workshops for nurses on how to avoid burnout; assimilating hypnotic language into written and verbal explanations of medical procedures; and using hypnotic techniques to improve surgeons' performance in laparoscopic procedures. This article will review the process from the psychologist-hypnotist's perspective.
