The poetry of Hussein ibn 'Alī revisited

George J. Kanazi

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

The article on the poetry of Hussein ibn 'Alī deals with the long poem that was published in his dīwān, not in its original form, but rather in separate stanzas of five lines each, according to the rhyming letter. The article proves that this long poem could not have been authored by Hussein ibn 'Alī. It certainly belongs to a much later period than the first century of the Muslim era, when Hussein lived. The real author cannot be known with certainty. In its second part the article gives the full text of the original Ara-bic poem followed by an English translation.
