Abstract
In January 1992, the Survey of Israel launched a project to re-map the country. Data acquisition was based on photogrammetric mapping from 1:40 000-scale aerial photographs for the northern (densely populated) part of Israel. The digital mapping project aimed to establish the National Digital Mapping DataBase (NDMADB), or what is termed in Israel: The National GIS. This article describes the issues dealt with in the preparation of the project in terms of the new standards and innovative digital mapping protocols, quality control procedures and the administrative management of this GIS project. Also discussed are the measures taken to introduce the new thinking and methods of digital mapping. -Author
