The formation and disappearance of a delta at the El-Arish river mouth

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

An extreme flood event with an estimated recurrence interval of 100 years or more occurred in the El-Arish drainage basin during February 1975. The peak flow reached 1.65 m3 s-1 and the total flood volume was about 120 x 106 m3. At the river mouth a large delta was formed. At its peak the volume of sediment in the delta was estimated at about 500 000 m3. Within one year following the event, the delta morphology had disappeared.
