The “Feathered Helmets” of the Sea Peoples: Joining the Iconographic and Archaeological Evidence

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This paper follows the iconography of the 12th century BC Philistine ‘feathered
helmets’ from the Medinet Habu reliefs in Egypt to Cyprus, the Levant and the
Aegean, establishing key components of the helmet and its decoration. Possible
material remains of such helmets found in 12th century Greece are then compared with the iconographic evidence.
