Abstract
Rashbam’s important commentary on the Torah is known from variouseditions, especially Rosin’s critical edition (1882). However, they are allbased on a single manuscript (MS Breslau), which is no longer extant. Thismanuscript was incomplete to begin with, and it was also full of textualcorruptions. In order to overcome this problematic situation, one shouldlook for indirect textual witnesses of Rashbam’s Torah commentary.Such sources can be found in other Torah commentaries that quote someof Rashbam’s comments. One important textual witness of this kind isMinhat Yehuda, including its textual branches, which quotes quite a fewof Rashbam’s comments verbatim. It can therefore be of text-critical helpin improving the text of Rashbam’s commentary.
