Abstract

"This research report explores the intersection of citizenship and Islamic education as perceived by Arab-Palestinian teachers in Israel. Specifically, it examines how civic issues are framed and addressed in religious education, and how religious issues are introduced and discussed in civic education. Moreover, the report considers the impact of teachers' perceptions of their civic and religious identities on their professional practice in teaching both subjects at the classroom level. The findings suggest a pressing need for revisions to the current citizenship and Islamic education curricula in Israel. The authors observe that the funds of knowledge held by Islamic and citizenship education teachers serve as a counter-hegemonic force in the current political climate with its religious ethno-nationalist orientation." -- נשבל בםהקרץ
