Abstract

The stability and instability of dipole selection rules for atomic high-order-harmonic-generation (HHG) spectra was investigated. It was shown that the dipole selection rules for HHG spectra in two-beam setups break down whenever the electric field of one of the beams is nonorthogonal to the propagation axis of the other one. The interaction of the electrons with the magnetic components of the electromagnetic waves led to efficient generation of the harmonics in a two-beam setup.
