Abstract

To further our knowledge on the speciation mechanisms in Spalax ehrenbergi superspecies, we set out to study the spermatogenesis of hybrid individuals belonging to two different hybrid zones (the one between the chromosomal species with 2n = 52 and 2n = 58 and the other between the chromosomal species with 2n = 58 and 2n = 60). The data show an impaired gametogenesis process for all the hybrids studied, even though the production of sperm is not completely affected.
