Abstract

This opening chapter is aimed at assessing the relationship of social work practice and information technology.The low level application of information technology to social work practice is viewed in terms of its etiology as well as its potential cost to the profession. It is concluded that a major investment should be made to incorporate information technology into social work practice.This perspective informs the remaining chapters.
