Abstract
This letter reports the design and at-sea performance of a single-input single-output (SISO) underwater acoustic (UWA) short video communication scheme at 10 kHz, in which 64-QAM modulation and Polar coding are adopted to facilitate high data rate communication of raw short video streams to rigorously evaluate the physical-layer performance. Its cascaded-structure receiver applies an orthogonal matching pursuit channel estimation based frequency-domain equalizer to shorten the UWA channel, and an RLS-driven direct adaptive decision-feedback equalizer (DA-DFE) for eliminating the residual multipath and Doppler. Sea test results in Xiamen Harbor demonstrate that it is capable of achieving SISO communication of a 3.5-s short video clip over 1 km with an actual data rate of 6.45 kbps.
