Satisfaction and Commitment in Long-Term Heterosexual Relationships

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Satisfaction and commitment are crucial for maintaining long-term heterosexual romantic relationships. In light of the relatively brief duration of emotional experiences and the abundance of alluring romantic alternatives, maintaining a long-term romantic relationship is seen to be 'against all odds.' The presence of many tempting alternatives to the present relationship generates romantic compromises and makes it extremely difficult to be happy with one's own relationship. In order to ensure their long-term survival, there is a need to revise the nature of heterosexual relationships. A nurturing approach is suggested for this purpose.
