Abstract

An educational counsellor is a key mental health professional who supports students’ emotional, social, and moral development within the school system. This study examined how emotional intelligence, empathy, and self-differentiation contribute to the moral leadership of educational counsellors in Arab society. The sample included 70 counsellors working in Arab schools. Data were collected using a socio-demographic questionnaire and standardised measures of emotional intelligence, empathy, self-differentiation, and moral leadership. Analyses included principal axis factoring, descriptive statistics, MANOVA, and post hoc comparisons. Results revealed that higher levels of emotional intelligence and self-differentiation were significantly associated with stronger expressions of moral leadership. Counsellors trained in universities with ethnically integrated environments demonstrated more individual-centred and change-oriented perspectives. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing emotional and reflective capacities in counsellor training programmes to promote ethical decision-making, culturally sensitive practice, and proactive engagement in educational equity and inclusion, thus contributing in practical ways to social change within Arab educational settings.
