Abstract

We review the general and peculiar features of pollination syndromes in the Mediterranean, with special emphasis on the maquis, and the role of flower colour and core plants at the community level. We emphasize the need for multinational, coordinated research on the pollination biology of the Mediterranean region and the associated need for a greater understanding of and investment in fundamental research on the taxonomy of bees.
