N2 - The Normative Deviancy Scale--Adapted (Abu-Rayya et al., 2016), was developed for the purposes of a study investigating the extent to which life satisfaction mediates the relationship between Islamic religiosity and deviancy amongst Australian Muslim youth (18-25 years). The scale was adapted from the original 55-item Normative Deviancy Scale (Vazsonyi et al., 2001), by eliminating all school-based deviancy items, as the age range of the participant sample was above that of schooling, thus shortening it to 27 items. The final measure was composed of six subscales: Vandalism (4 items, e.g., vandalism to public property including damaging seats on a bus/train or movie theater); Alcohol-Related Deviancy (4 items, e.g., getting intentionally drunk); Drug-Related Deviancy (4 items; e.g., the use of soft-drugs such a marijuana); General Deviancy (8 items, e.g., letting the air out of car/bike tires); Theft (4 items, e.g., failing to return extra cash given to you by the mistake from the cashier); and Assault (3 items, e.g., being involved in gangs or gang activities). Respondents were required to indicate the frequency with which they had carried out the acts, detailed within the last 12 months, using a 5-point Likert scale. Results indicated reliability, as Cronbach’s alpha of the total scale was .88. (APA PsycTests Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
