Abstract
Music therapy (MT) is the use of music for therapeutic purposes by a music therapist. Music therapy has long been suggested as a preferred therapy, highly effective and greatly loved by individuals with developmental disorders including those diagnosed with Rett syndrome. The present chapter highlights research and clinical work of music and MT in the lives of persons with Rett Syndrome (RTT) in different situations and settings. These include: Music in everyday life of persons with RTT; MT as an assessment tool for RTT; MT sessions in therapeutic context; the use of musical improvisation, songs and vocalization.
