Introduction to part III: Innovative pedagogies for health promotion

Abstract

This section of the book includes 11 chapters that focus on innovative pedagogies and methodologies to translate health promotion theory into practice for teaching and learning in health promotion. Some of the aspects developed are engaging students in cooperative learning and the potential for relational pedagogy; student-centered transformational education and the integration of theory and practice; creative methods for information literacy; development of technical skills, attitudes, and knowledge through perspectives and feelings about care; practice within the community; the cultural perspective of health and well-being; participatory research supported by action-reflection-action to acquire skills needed to face community projects; active methodologies to allow experience in forming a network to address regional inequities through capacity building; health as a social value and participatory approaches using different strategies presenting conceptual and methodological convergences in different courses; challenges at the local, regional, and global level and planetary health as an opportunity to develop innovative pedagogical practices and support the integration of theory into practice; and interprofessional initiative in virtual learning and evaluative challenges in the process. In sum, they highlight the ongoing complexity of teaching-learning in health promotion and present ideas to overcome some of the challenges. This section of the book includes 11 chapters that focus on the pedagogies for teaching and learning in health promotion, and, in so doing, it highlights the ongoing complexity to translate health promotion's theory into practice as well as the innovative methodologies to overcome some of the challenges.
