Abstract

The article focuses on the development of the law governing punitive damages in the U.S. Topics discussed include analysis income-dependent punitive damages focusing on deterrence and retribution; court cases State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. v. Campbell and BMW of North America Inc. v. Gore addressing the same; and determining how defendant's wealth can be integrated into the calculation.
