Abstract
Recent excavations on the eastern slope of the Southeastern Hill (City of David) made several critical discoveries that allow for greater understanding of Jerusalem’s two earliest fortification phases. This article offers an overview of past and present excavations relating to different fortification elements, placing special emphasis on Jerusalem’s city wall (the Mid-Slope Fortification), constructed in the mid-8th century BCE.
