In the Footsteps of R. A. S. Macalister’s Excavations

Abstract

I was invited to sum up this workshop dedicated to the Irish/British archaeologist R. A. S. Macalister most probably because my studies followed in his footsteps in several places, particularly at Tel Gezer. It should be emphasized that, although I conducted excavations for some fifteen years in the City of David in Jerusalem, and a tiny probe on the outskirts of Tel Gezer, my excavations were never abutting or adjacent to Macalister’s, as were the excavation areas of C. Warren, H. Guthe, C. Schick, M. Parker and K. Kenyon. However, I have ‘excavated’ several times in his reports on various subjects.
