Abstract

This chapter focuses on health care clinical guidelines and workflow models. A life-cycle approach to health care guidelines and workflow models is followed, reviewing the contributions of the two communities addressing health care process and decision support, by considering the stage of the life cycle that each achievement addresses: including knowledge acquisition, knowledge (process) modeling and specification, integration of guideline and workflow knowledge, validation and verification, enactment, process mining and improvement, and sharing of executable guideline knowledge. Successes and limitations, with suggestions for future research, are discussed.
