Abstract

This chapter charts the future directions of systemic family therapy (SFT) using a global perspective. It focuses on diverse geographical, historical, political, and socioeconomic contexts of countries and regions around the world and suggests that such contexts provide opportunities for SFT to achieve its purposes. SFT also provides a systemic paradigm, coupled with relational foci and strategic solutions, to address diverse mental health issues around the world. Nevertheless, SFT must be ready to move beyond its traditional convention and current accolades in order to be more relevant and respectful to the diverse needs and emerging treatment phenomena in middle-income countries (MICs) and low-income countries (LICs).
