Abstract
Prominent witness to have endured torture in the Duvalierist prisons, G eacute;rard Eacute;tienne vividly describes the atrocities committed by the Duvaliers and ``The Tontons Macoutes''. He illustrates how Duvalier manipulated voodoo to terrorize the Haitian people and impose a dictatorship, characterized as mystical fascism by G eacute;rard Aubourg. Joubert Satyre emphasizes the pact between voodoo and dictatorship denounced by Eacute;tienne. Beyond the monstrous state power, Eacute;tienne addresses other concealed political powers, such as symbolic violence denounced by Bourdieu, the ostracism of black women, confinement and control societies, xenophobia, racism, and anti-Semitism. He claims the stance of the intellectual who tracks all forms of fascism and states that he writes for History.
