Abstract
One of the most significant “pains of imprisonment” for women prisoners is the separation from their husbands (Severance in The Prison Journal 85(3):343–367, 2005). This disconcerting and frustrating deprivation often negatively affects women’s ability to function as wives while in prison and after release (Dodge and Pogrebin in The Prison Journal 81(1):42–54, 2001).
