Abstract
Based on the archaeological evidence, the mosaic from Hippos, published here for the first time, can be dated to the late 4th or early 5th century AD, at the latest. Following the reading of the inscription, the possibility of the existence of a home for the elderly, located next to the main junction of the decumanus maximus and a colonnaded cardo, in the episcopal see The main Christian city around the Sea of Galilee, which was Hippos in the Byzantine period, suggests this. If this assumption is correct, the house, which appears to have had a particular connection to the aged, would have been founded before the mid to late 5th century, when, according to literary sources, the foundations of homes for the elderly became more frequent.
