Abstract
This study examines two central questions: What characterizes teacher identity in an elite high school? Does teacher identity in an elite high school influence the construction and cultivation of privileges? Thirty teachers from an elite high school in Israel were interviewed, revealing three features of the teacher identity: engagement in the concept of the "ideal teacher," acknowledging the burden of the educational work, and the ethical consequences of the burden of their work as educators. Findings highlight the unique characteristics of teacher identity in an elite school and their impact on cultivating and maintaining class privilege and social inequality.
