Abstract
Digital cartographic treatments and map production take place only after the establishment of seamless GIS data bases. This process, based on cartographic rules and professional experience of visual hard copy production, should not affect the original information source. The paper describes the new process initiated in the Survey of Israel for map compilation and production. The three main streams of production are: work maps, quality line maps, and image and space maps. Also discussed are: data acquisition, quality control, automatic tools for cartographic generalization, and customizing symbolization for thematic maps. -from Author
