Correlation of Headache Complaints With Some Physiological Parameters in a Healthy Population

SYNOPSIS In a generally healthy population, 75.8% complained of headache. Based on answers to a questionnaire, 18.9% were defined as suffering from migraine and 8.8% from tension headache. The prevalence of headache was more common among females and this was mainly due to the fact that migraine was more common in this sex. Abnormal visual acuity, abnormal (high or low) blood pressure, increased intraocular pressure, polycythemia and anemia occurred in the same frequencies in the headache and non headache groups (and in various subgroups). It is concluded that abnormalties in these physiological parameters cannot be a common cause of headache.
