Abstract
The complex relationship between art, culture, and society in Israel is set in relief by the fact that the declaration of independence of the State of Israel took place in the building housing the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, in May 1948. The neutral space of art thus became the legal space of the official birth of the Israeli nation.
