Abstract
Techniques for the calculation of the mean and median centre, the mean distance, mean squared distance and the standard distance are presented and the characteristics of these measures discussed. Graphical display of the results is given by the cross and ellipse of dispersion. Lastly, the application of these techniques to population, urban, agricultural and social geography is reviewed. -A.Armstrong
