Abstract

The term canon, whose primary meaning in Sumerian and Akkadian is reed, rod, and which was adapted in Greek in the sense of measure, criterion, has acquired various definitions and interpretations in the general lexical literature and in special studies devoted to this subject that have been published in recent years.
