Abstract
The protozoan fauna of the herbivorous rabbitfishes Siganus rivulatus and S. argenteus from the Gulf of Eilat, Red Sea, includes a trichostome ciliate described here as Balantidium sigani sp. nov. This parasite is found in the terminal intestine in both host species. Balantidium sigani was also found in immigrant S. rivulatus in the Mediterranean.
