Abstract
The style of figure sculpture on the west front ofSaint-Pierre at Aulnay-de-Saintonge is the creation of a Poitou-Loire milieu, and was subject to far less Languedocian influences than has hitherto been assumed. The stylistic sources, the geographical distribution of other works in the same style, and whatever may be gathered about patronage, all point to this conclusion. This gives rise to some questions concerning the pattern of inter-regional influences in High Romanesque France.
