Abstract
In this paper I argue that the poor have as much a claim to affirmative action as do, e.g., women or blacks and even more. The poor are underprivileged and discriminated against in ways resembling those that blacks and women have known. Most arguments for and against affirmative action are as strong or as weak when applied to the poor as when applied to women or blacks. General criteria that should be used in decisions on entitlement and precedence to affirmative action are indicated.
