Anthonie Palamedess paintings for the Delft Surgeons' Guildhall

Abstract

The article identifies two lost group of portraits of surgeons carrying out operations as work by Anthonie Palamedes for the hall of the surgeons' guild in Delft, the Netherlands, and dated to about 1658. It reveals that the portraits were part of a programme of works of art for the hall devised by Palamedes, of which to other paintings by him of medical subjects survive. Also mentioned are paintings by Domenico di Bartolo, Franciscus Arcaeus, and Hans Wechtlin.
