Abstract
Background: Posttraumatic symptoms may occur in children and family members who have undergone traumatic medical events, injuries, or an initial outbreak of a chronic illness. Parents' negative perceptions of their children's health may contribute to the development of posttraumatic stress in both children and parents following trauma exposure .Aims: To examine (1) the association between mothers' posttraumatic symptoms and children's posttraumatic symptoms at two time points following a traumatic medical event; and (2) the role of maternal perceptions in mediating the association between mother and child posttraumatic symptoms.
