Abstract

Psychotherapeutic Playback Theater is a unique form of group psychotherapy, which uses the structure and techniques of Playback Theater. Psychotherapeutic Playback Theater groups meet regularly in a therapeutic setting, have a therapeutic contract and goals, and are conducted by a group therapist. Each of the participants can be a teller,a player, or a spectator. The aim of this article is to present the features of this form of therapy and its form of action through the perspectives of group analysis and container-contained relationships. Processes of resonance, mirroring, exchange, and the collective unconscious are discussed and demonstrated. The theatrical improvisation and group interaction around it are discussed and demonstrated in terms of container -contained relationships as an act of containment. Possibilities of over- and under - containment and possible conductor interventions are examined. The importance of combining and moving between personal and group narratives to enable the development of meaningful abilities of intimacy and internalization is discussed.
