Abstract
In the present study we investigate the essence of personal writing as a way of coping with life transitions. The study participants are three women which experienced life transition and used personal writing during it. The methodology of this study is in the discipline of the qualitative research and the analysis of the texts has been done through the narrative research. The study results suggest that the participant's personal writing has become a rite of passage that helped each of the participants to cope with the lack of control, the chaos and confusion which characterize life transitions. The picture which derives from the present study indicates an essential difference between representing the life transitions stories orally (as presented in the interviews) and presenting them in writing (as presented in the personal writing). While the oral story gives a partially place for different levels of the life transition experience, the written story presents a wide, rich, full diapason of this experience. On this assumption the present study clarifies the importance of personal writing and combining it in therapy which will enable processing the complex life transition story.
