Abstract
In recent years, art therapists have begun to expand the definition of their profession, so as to include art therapy work in the community and in society as a whole. This article describes different community projects, the Portable Studio (Kalmanowitz & Lloyd, 2005) as a social intervention in art therapy and the ways in which art therapists can work outside of the clinical setting. Examples are presented from three art therapy social action projects ("pop up studios" and a visual diary group) in Israel. It is through these examples, that the role of art therapy in social change is explored.
