בדברים שלהלן, המתייחסים לחקר הפולקלור של יהודי תימן לפני 'עליית על כנפי נשרים', שהתחוללה בשנים הראשונות לאחר קום מדינת ישראל ובשנים הראשונות שלאחריה, יצופו תולדות חקר הפולקלור של יהדות תימן מזה קרוב למאה וחמישים שנה.
