Abstract
הבטטה משתייכת לסוג לפופית במשפחת החבלבלים. הבטטה היא צמח דו פסיגי רב שנתי, אך נהוג לגדלו כצמח חד שנתי. בארץ מגדלים כ-12 אלף דונם (לפי נתוני מועצת הצמחים), בעיקר באדמות קלות-בינוניות. אזורי הגידול הם עמק החולה, השרון, שער הנגב, הבשור רמת נגב והערבה הדרומית. בשנים האחרונות מרבית הגידול מיועד לשוק המקומי, לצריכה טרייה ולתעשייה, והיצוא נשחק. שיווק של תוצרת טריה מתחיל בחודש יולי עד תחילת דצמבר.
