Abstract
במסגרת המחקר הנוכחי נסקרו עשרה מוקדים מרכזיים בדרום מישור החוף, שתועדו בהם 953 עצים. עם זאת, ניתן להעריך כי אלפי עצי שקמה עתיקים נוספים טרם מופו או שולבו בבסיס נתונים מסודר, בעיקר באזור זה, אך גם באזורים נוספים בארץ. לפיכך, נדרש מיפוי רחב ומקיף יותר בקנה מידה ארצי, שיאפשר לבסס את מעמד השקמים כעצי מורשת ולגבש תוכנית פעולה כוללת לשימורם ולשימור נופי התרבות שהם נטועים בהם.
